Teachers help win film equipment for their schools!

Teachers inspire their students to do great things – so we decided that we wanted to help regional teachers support their student filmmakers by giving away film equipment to their schools!

In 2017, we launched a new initiative to get more film cameras, microphone, and lenses into regional classrooms. Thanks to our friends at Black Magic Design, RODE Microphones, and Samyang lenses, we gave away $16,000 in equipment to regional schools.

How did they win? Easy. They encouraged their students to make short films and submit them into REC Ya Shorts Youth Film Festival.

And it’s happening again in 2018 – but BIGGER!

Here’s a list of what’s included in a massive FIVE schools packs up for grabs to schools worth nearly $4000 each.

An additional three packs are up for grabs to talented individual filmmaking teams that take out the coveted Best Film prizes in the 12 to 14, 15 to 18, and 19 to 25 age categories.

So how did schools win? Tamworth High School was one of the big winners last year – here’s how they did it.

After being part of our in-school film workshop program, Tamworth High School’s Kristina Poder encouraged her students to submit films, which is what won them one of our film kits!

It’s not too late to enter for 2018 either, with submissions for round closing on September 24th. Plenty of time to conceive, write, shoot, edit and submit your films. Make sure to check out the entry guidelines here.

Finalist films will be assessed by our jury and premiered at the Nextwave Youth Film Awards at SWIFF 2019 next January (10-25) on the Coffs Coast, before being made available for regional councils to hold public screenings for National Youth Week in 2019.

REC Ya Shorts Youth Film Festival is proudly presented by Screenwave and Headspace Coffs Harbour, supported by a fantastic team of festival partners, and is the major youth program for the Screenwave International Film Festival (SWIFF).
