The [REC] Ya Shorts Youth Film Festival is fast approaching the deadline for young regional filmmakers aged 12-25 to submit their original short films by the 24th of September. Check out how to enter here!
Seize the opportunity to win from a prize pool worth over $40,000, including camera equipment from Black Magic Design, RODE Microphones and SAMYANG lenses, and experiences for further study from AFTRS and NIDA.
All up, 15 short films will be recognised as finalists and hit the big screen at the NEXTWAVE Youth Film Awards in January 2019, as part of the Screenwave International Film Festival on the Coffs Coast.
So a call out to all the actors, directors, cinematographers, editors and writers out there, who all have the opportunity to take out awards, alongside competing for the coveted Best Film prize in their age category, scoring a film kit worth nearly $4,000.
But there’s a catch! Short films must be under 6 minutes long, created by young Australian’s living in non-metro areas, aged 12-25. In 2018, submissions must creatively explore the theme of ‘escape’ and include the signature item ‘sign’- to be interpreted by the filmmakers. That’s not so hard.
Submissions will be judged by a panel of established Australian filmmakers, including the creators of Australian features, Alice Foulcher and Greg Erdstein (That’s Not Me), Stevie Cruz-Martin and Daniel Monks (Pulse), alongside actor Tysan Towney (Cleverman).
Presented by Screenwave and Headspace, the [REC] Ya Shorts Youth Film Festival program provides an opportunity for young, regional Australian’s to explore filmmaking, express themselves and their experiences and be recognised for storytelling, passion and creativity.
